Valuing Values

The importance of values is currently echoing around the world, as teachers, parents and even children are becoming ever more concerned about rising social evils. While there is widespread understanding of the role and value of values for the betterment of humanity, our role to inculcate values during a child’s shaping years is woefully deficient in scope and approach. Even when we occasionally teach ‘moral values’ to children, we try to test them to see if they got the spelling right without bothering to check whether they got the essence right or not.

Children are like wet clay, whoever touches them, makes an impression. They can be molded in any way. What’s more, children are quick learners and naturally absorb the world around them. They intuitively imbibe values from their parents, teachers and friends. That’s why they say that values are more ‘caught’ than ‘taught’.

So then, how do we instill values and develop character in schoolchildren? We have tried to integrate values into curriculum, but still do not know how to make that work. We have tried to make family responsible for children’s character and values. But in this always-connected world, it is also not very effective to counteract the impact of modern negative influences on children.

‘For a great future’ project is a humble attempt to supplement the ongoing efforts in an attempt to provide the missing pieces of the puzzle. It seeks to empower teachers to develop an effective and enduring solution to impart the value education without compromising on the academic rigor. And to ensure better and lasting outcomes, it aims to excite children with innovative, practical ways to internalize the positive values. It also intends to encourage parents to play an active part in the moral growth of their children. Essentially, it seeks to offer a different, simple and comprehensive plan for social reclamation in which human beings and nature will be able to coexist in a long-term, sustainable state of dynamic equilibrium.

Our future is in our hands, hearts and minds. Let’s come together to save our world, and save our future from ourselves. Let’s come together for a great future. We can do it, together. Let’s make it happen.
